Colombian scientists recover cannon, coins and porcelain cup from 300-year-old Spanish shipwreck

Colombian scientists have recovered a cannon, three coins and a porcelain cup from the Caribbean Sea. That’s where the Spanish galleon San José sank in 1708. The Colombian culture ministry announced the recovery on Thursday. The ship is believed to hold valuable treasures. Colombia’s government authorized a scientific investigation last year to study the wreckage but not to seize the treasure. The ship has been the subject of a legal battle in the United States, Colombia and Spain over who owns the rights to the sunken treasure. The wreckage lies 600 meters deep. But its exact location is a state secret.
