Suspected meteor falling over Cleveland could be seen several states away

A suspected meteor that fell from the sky over the Cleveland area shook homes and startled residents who heard a boom that some compared to an explosion. People hundreds of miles away reported seeing the bright fireball at about 9 a.m. Tuesday. The American Meteor Society says it received reports from Wisconsin to Maryland. Carl Hergenrother, an astronomer with the group, says it appeared bright enough to be a meteor, one perhaps the size of a basketball. He says they typically fall about once a day in the U.S.
