The Artemis II astronauts are racing toward a new distance record on their moon flyby. Apollo 13’s crew currently holds the record for the humans traveling the farthest from Earth. The three Americans and one Canadian who were launched last week will break that record set in 1970, right before they begin their lunar fly-around on Monday. The hourslong lunar observations promise magnificent views of the moon’s far side never seen before by eye. Once they emerge from behind the moon, the astronauts will head straight home without stopping, with a Pacific splashdown on Friday.
