Food and Drug Administration scientists did not support an effort by President Donald Trump’s administration to loosen rules on unproven peptide drugs. That’s according to people familiar with the policy’s development who were interviewed by The Associated Press. The peptides at issue are unapproved chemicals promoted for wellness purposes, including building muscle, healing injuries and boosting energy. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he’s a fan of the injectable substances. But the people interviewed by the AP say FDA scientists overwhelmingly opposed a new policy from Kennedy and other administration officials aimed at making peptides more easily available. FDA scientists had a limited role in writing the policy and mainly contributed safety proposals.
