More than 2,000 volunteers are helping Polish scientists restore a Mastodonsaurus skeleton. This massive amphibian was an aquatic predator from around the dawn of the dinosaur age. Unearthed in southern Poland in 2023, it’s the largest nearly complete Mastodonsaurus skeleton found. The Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw hosts the project. The Mastodonsaurus lived about 240 million years ago, preying on fish and smaller amphibians. Volunteers from across Poland have joined the restoration effort, learning to carefully chisel away rock from the bones. Scientists aim to complete the work this year and plan to exhibit the skeleton.
