A Minnesota county prosecutor says convictions in six murder cases are fair despite concerns about a medical examiner’s work. The review of Dr. Michael McGee’s cases followed a federal judge’s 2021 criticism of his testimony as “unreliable.” Three experts found mostly stylistic differences in McGee’s work. A few substantive concerns the experts raised did not undermine the merits of the case. On Tuesday, Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said the convictions in six cases are “fair and just.” One recent case is continuing in the legal process. Choi says the findings highlight the need for more training on the use of medical expert testimony.
