The Orionid meteor shower is coming. Here’s how and when to watch

The Orionid meteor shower, caused by remnants from Halley’s comet, peaks this week. A large moon will dim visibility until it sets late at night. During the peak from Wednesday night into Thursday morning, up to 20 meteors per hour may be visible in ideal conditions. The Orionids can be seen in both the northern and southern hemispheres after midnight. While named after the Orion constellation, they are visible across the night sky. Orionids are known for being bright and fast, often leaving glowing trails. The next major meteor shower, the Southern Taurids, peaks on Nov. 5.
