Dan David Prize awards 9 scholars $300,000 each for research on the human past

Nine scholars from around the world have been awarded $300,000 each to advance their careers. The winners of this year’s Dan David Prize include historians and archaeologists studying topics like conflict in the Balkans and climate adaptation in past societies. The prize, based at Tel Aviv University, recognizes early and mid-career academics conducting innovative research on the human past. Winners include Howard Chiang from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Dagomar Degroot, an environmental historian. Their work spans diverse topics and regions, challenging us to see history in a new light.
